BULL TESTS & AI SIRES

Performance information has been collected on Pinzgauer bulls for many years. From British Columbia to Quebec, the results are always the same - phenomenal !!! They consistently average over 3 pounds of gain per day (1.36 kg/day) on rations formulated to achieve optimum growth, but not "hot" enough to fatten them. The performance of Pinzgauer bulls explains why Pinzgauer steers excel in every test they've been involved with.

On average, Pinzgauer bulls weigh just over 700 pounds (318 kg) when the warm-up period for the tests begin. During the 140-day Government-sanctioned tests, some of them will gain over 4 pounds per day (1.81 kg/day), but usually the average at the end will be 3 to 3.5 pounds per day (1.36 - 1.59 kg/day). Some exceptional Pinzgauer bulls have been tested and achievements such as these bring recognition to the Pinzgauer breed. In one of the annual tests at Little Red Feeders, Innisfail, Alberta, the top gaining bull of all breeds on test was a Pinzgauer that posted 4.22 pounds per day (1.91 kg/day). That same year at Lazy S Feeders, Mayerthorpe, Alberta, Pinzgauer bull topped the 150 head All Breeds Bull Test by posting 3.79 pounds of gain per day (1.72 kg/day).

Consistent feed efficiency also figures into these statistics. Pinzgauer bulls continue to lead the tests in this area, using the least amount of feed to produce a pound of gain.

Carcass results prove the value of the breed. Rib-Eye measurements and marbling scores indicate high yields and superb quality, and after all, a superior product to present to the public is really what breeding cattle is all about.

Of the animals slaughtered in the test, Pinzgauer also had the Best Single Ribeye Measurement (16.25 sq. in.) as well as the Best Single Cutability (63.44%).

This page will feature Pinzgauer sires whose semen is available for breeders planning to use artificial insemination (AI) during the upcoming breeding season. Please check back soon for a complete list of available AI Sires.
